A Summer of Pancakes: Okonomiyaki, The Japanese King of Savory Pancakes
Taught by Jonathan Soma
Soma was born in the South, is what someone from the North would say. He co-founded the Brainery, is the sciencey half of Masters of Social Gastronomy, and plans on getting married to Waffle House. In his more droll moments he is a tragic sellout to higher ed as a professor of data journalism at Columbia University's journalism school.

This class is part of our A Summer of Pancakes series
Okonomiyaki is the undisputed king of savory pancakes. It's so complex and so delicious that it's often called Japanese pizza!
Flour, cabbage, pork belly and more combine and are topped with multiple sauces to create a savory pancake to remember forever. Learn to prepare your own, whether or not you have access to a Japanese grocery store.
Every region of Japan has a different take, with different methods of preparation or ingredients: we'll explore regional differences as we cook up different types of okonimyaki ourselves.
Note: This will be a hands-on cooking class, and will include both pork and fish products
