Taught by Jen Messier

Jen is the co-founder of the Brainery and lives in Flatlands with her partner and (too many) cats. She knows a little bit about a lot of things and can teach a lot of classes on the fly. Currently really into hydroponics, cyanotypes, and dyeing things poorly.

You can ask her anything at jen@brooklynbrainery.com.

This is an old class! Check out the current classes, or sign up for our mailing list to see if we'll offer this one again.

This class might be over, but get first dibs on new sessions and brand-new classes by signing up on our ultra-rad mailing list.

Make some lovely + simple watercolor coasters that are perfect for gift giving! We'll start by exploring a few easy watercolor techniques then transform those paintings into coasters made with durable acrylic rounds and copper tape. if you're feeling extra festive, we can add in some metallic flakes as well.

No experience required! You can make up to 4 coasters (keep some and gift some), and all materials are provided. We'll have some refreshments as well!

All proceeds from this class will support one of our current medical cases at Cat Republic

Pop Pop

Pop Pop is currently fighting for his life in the hospital, at risk of liver failure due to hepatic lipidosis, also known as fatty liver disease. After not eating for a month, he required an emergency blood transfusion and is now in critical care.

Pop Pop is the sweetest old man around - he purrs the second you look at him and loves belly rubs. But poor Pop Pop has been quite sick and needs our help to get through this severe medical crisis. He was surrendered by his caretaker to NYCACC in early February after having 3 urinary obstructions in a few weeks. But, more concerningly, was the fact Pop Pop hadn't eaten for a month. In large cats like him, not eating can lead to fatty liver disease very quickly, and unfortunately, it can be life-threatening if not treated.

We took over Pop Pop's care from ACC and he's now at VERG Animal Hospital in Brooklyn receiving the best possible supportive care. He's anemic, has elevated liver values, a high white blood cell count, and is nauseous. We were delighted to learn today that he does not have liver cancer and the doctors are hopeful he can recover. He's received a blood transfusion, is on two different antibiotics, and is being fed through a tube in his nose directly to his stomach, as he is so nauseous he's having trouble keeping down food through his esophageal tube.

We have seen many seniors recover over the years to lead happy, long lives, and we are hopeful Pop Pop will be our next success story, but we need your help to pay for his hospitalization, which is already at $10,000 after 3 days and rising. Can you help us save this sweet senior and give him the golden years he deserves? Any support is greatly appreciated.
