Taught by Jen Messier

Jen is the co-founder of the Brainery and lives in Kensington with her partner and (too many) cats. She knows a little bit about a lot of things and can teach a lot of classes on the fly. Currently really into embroidery, cyanotypes, and paper marbling.

You can ask her anything at jen@brooklynbrainery.com.

This is an old class! Check out the current classes, or sign up for our mailing list to see if we'll offer this one again.

Make some lovely + simple watercolor coasters that are perfect for gift giving! We'll start by exploring a few easy watercolor techniques then transform those paintings into coasters made with durable acrylic rounds and copper tape. if you're feeling extra festive, we can add in some metallic flakes as well.

No experience required! You can make up to 4 coasters (keep some and gift some), and all materials are provided.

A portion of the proceeds from this class will support one of our current medical cases at Cat Republic

Azalea (also known as Mouse)

Sweet, tiny Azalea was dropped off to us about a month ago as an owner surrender from a breeding situation that unfortunately took on a life of its own. Azalea was surrendered along with her two siblings and two kittens, and she'd spent most of her life living in a crate. She's about 2 years old, 4.5 pounds, and the funniest, sweetest little girl you've ever seen.

We had Azalea (now known as Mouse) and her two siblings vetted and spayed, and she went off to a trial adoption a week ago, where she became a complete lovebug with her adoptive family. Over the weekend, she seemed lethargic and less hungry, and then on Monday her eyes suddenly changed color from blue to green. Poor Azalea had to be hospitalized for two days with severe anemia, and we are running lots of tests to see what the underlying cause is. She's home from the hospital now and doing well, but her bill was $3600.
