She's an entrepreneur, instructional designer, birth and business coach–empowering people through work, life, childbirth, and transformation. In her private practice, she coaches people who crave financial freedom and an integrated work/life/cycle.

Laena launched her startup, Anarchy in a Jar, in 2009. It has been featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Martha Stewart Show, New York Magazine, Food & Wine, and more. When she’s not making it rain with mustard and startup nitty-gritty, you can find her dreaming about her next adventure and chasing her children around Brooklyn.

In this comprehensive class, health coach, food entrepreneur, birth and postpartum doula Laena McCarthy will discuss healing traditions and practices to boost the body's natural resilience while protecting from stress and damage, with a focus on skincare. The class will begin with an overview of what healthy self-care rituals look like, why taking care of your body is important, and how to heal and take care of your skin, body and cycles using simple herbs and oils.

Then we will make our own infused oils together! These oils are great for cleansing, healing age, acne, or sensitivity, and moisturizing. This is a hands-on class, where I will share my recipes and techniques, and everyone will make their own oil to take home. The last 15 minutes of class, I will teach you the Ayerveda self-massage technique, Abyanga; a great self-care ritual incorporating your handmade oil.

Participants will learn about resources for herbs, oils and ingredients, and will take home a guide Laena's created with DIY skincare and the self-massage exercise covered in the class, as well as a greater understanding of how to enhance your daily self care rituals, empowering you to take your physical, emotional and reproductive health into your own hands.
