Root Beer
Taught by Jonathan Soma
Soma was born in the South, is what someone from the North would say. He co-founded the Brainery, is the sciencey half of Masters of Social Gastronomy, and plans on getting married to Waffle House. In his more droll moments he is a tragic sellout to higher ed as a professor of data journalism at Columbia University's journalism school.

Root beer is a lot more than what A&W cranks out. Let's play apothecary and mix up some of our very own root beers while learning about the surprising history of everyone's favorite earthy beverage.
We'll be cooking up traditional syrups that are a sure bet for mixing with seltzer or throwing into cocktails. Spice cabinets will be raided - sassafras, licorice, nutmeg, star anise, molasses and more - and custom concoctions created.
You'll leave with a bottle of your very own concetrate and knowledge that you can confidently spell sarsaparilla.
