Taught by Elysa Lozano

Trained at the Rhode Island School of Design and Goldsmiths College, Elysa Lozano’s art practice emulates a not-for-profit, called Autonomous Organization, which has produced proposals for Socialist colonies in a high-rise building in Houston, Texas, re-branded an exhibition space in London as a construction site, and created a web archive of project space survival strategies. Between curating, writing and conducting field research, she lectures at CUNY LaGuardia in Figure Drawing, Art History, and Urban Studies.

Drawing geometric objects may sound challenging but with some simple rules and practices you will be able to accurately convey perspective. This skill will put cityscapes, architecture, interiors, furniture, and any rectangular object at your fingertips! Perspective drawing, which originated during the Renaissance, conveys reality according to the position of the artist's eye. While it is possible to portray depth of space by simply drawing what you see, specific methods make sense of confusing angles and proportions and make eyeballing it a breeze.

In this class we will cover one-point and two-point perspective, as well as the measuring techniques that make it possible to replicate both exercises and reality. We will practice using these techniques to draw from images and then experiment with drawing from life, including a special section on geometric objects.

You will leave with a number of diagrammatic sketches you can reference for the future and a finished drawing to show off. The tools you learn here can be used to draw from imagination or from the houses, towns and cities around you.
