An Introduction to Wine Tasting
Taught by Rachel Signer
Rachel Signer writes about food and wine for Eater, Food Republic, Edible Magazine, Vine Pair, and others. She fell in love with wine while working at the restaurant Reynard, and then worked at Uva Wines in Williamsburg, which sells an array of organic, natural, and high-end wines. She loves sharing her passion for wine by helping people become more confident and adventurous drinkers.
This class takes place at In Vino, 215 E 4th Street, Manhattan.
Ever wondered how you can learn more about wine—how to taste it, purchase it in a shop or restaurant, and pair it with food? Or what is “biodynamic” or “natural wine”? Or why you like certain wines but not others? Wine is a complex mystery that can easily be unraveled with some basic knowledge. This class will help you gain confidence, and empower you as a wine drinker. Over the course of two hours, you’ll learn the basics of tasting wine and find out what questions you should be asking when you are looking at a bottle and considering buying it.
We’ll taste four wines, and talk about them in detail—why do we call them “dry” or “bright”; does it matter that this one is “biodynamic”; how is Old World wine different from New World. Then I’ll answer any questions you have about wine in an instructive and general way. Finally, we’ll walk two blocks to Discovery Wines and I’ll personally help each of you pick out a wine in your ideal price range, for whatever occasion.
This class is ideal for those who feel that their wine knowledge is at a fairly basic level, or even slightly more intermediate. We’ll hold it at the beautiful East Village restaurant, In Vino. 21+, bring your ID!
