Christa Avampato

Christa Avampato grew up on an apple farm in the Hudson Valley and spent most of her childhood climbing trees and playing in the dirt with her dogs. Down in the dirt, she learned how beautiful nature is.

She earned her undergraduate degree in Economics and History at the University of Pennsylvania, and her MBA at the Darden School at the University of Virginia. Christa always wanted to bring her love for science and nature into her business work. Growing increasingly concerned about climate change, she decided to continue her graduate studies in Arizona State University's Biomimicry Program.

Now as the founder of Double or Nothing Media in New York City, she makes her living as a product developer who uses biomimicry, the study and application of nature's designs to human-designed product. Her goal is to rid the world of fossil fuel-based plastic, and she is currently working on that research and commercial application with a nanoscience lab based at CUNY's Advanced Science Research Center in Harlem.

Christa has a deep and abiding love for history. She is a writer, storyteller, and tour guide, and you can find her writing in The Washington PostInside History MagazineRoyal Media Partners publications, PBS.org, and The Motley Fool. Christa is an award-winning author and is currently at work on two novels as well as several screenwriting projects. She produces and hosts New York City's Secrets and Lies, a live storytelling game show that is two truths and a lie with secret New York City history.
