Point of view, or the perspective from which a story is told, affects nearly every aspect of our fiction. It is the keyhole through which we peer into a story. As writers, once we settle who is telling our story, we then have to decide the equally important question of how we’re going to tell it. In this two-hour craft course, we will explore the various forms point of view can take, as well as the pros and cons of each by examining the work of Julie Orringer, George Saunders, and Yiyun Li. You will leave class with the tools necessary to make informed decisions about POV—and the inspiration to experiment with new modes of narration in your next short story or novel.
