Glass has a ubiquitous presence in contemporary western culture, and a link to many disciplines and histories. Glass lenses and windows comprise microscopes, telescopes, cameras and screens that extend our ability to perceive. We live in an environment surrounded by glass, and it is through this material that we, quite literally, see the world.

In this collaboration with UrbanGlass, we will be starting with a brief lecture exploring the origins and development of lens technology and then move into the studio for a flameworking demonstration.

Analog versions of Photoshop and Instagram filters for iPhone (and Android) will be made live out of glass and participants will have the opportunity to try out the lenses using their own camera phones to create unique images.

This class meets at UrbanGlass in Fort Greene.
