Taught by John M.

John Melfi is a tax lawyer by training, but don’t let that dissuade you from taking this class. He’s an avid fly fisherman and has fished for various species all over the US and in Ireland, Poland, Canada, and the Caribbean, among other places. He is a board member and vice president of the New York City chapter of Trout Unlimited. John lives in Brooklyn.

For most of us, trout season is drawing to an end. Time to fill up the fly boxes with fresh flies for next season!

This is an introductory-level class; it’s intended for folks who have never tied flies, or who perhaps have dabbled in the art but aren’t comfortable with the mysteries of tying a well-constructed fly.

The focus will be flies that are effective for trout, whether on streams or in lakes. The format is hands-on and super relaxed. We’ll tie a selection of basic, but very effective, trout flies, and we’ll concentrate on creating productive (rather than just pretty) flies.

If you have your own tying equipment (vise, scissors, bobbin, etc.), by all means bring it. If not, equipment (and all necessary tying materials) will be provided.
