Explore your creative side in this introductory class to the art of making collage.
Learn how to make a wonderfully expressive collage by using texture, shapes, colors and patterns; and create your very own beautiful collage artwork with a focus on: expression, storytelling, fun, and play.
We will start with a brief show-and-tell about the history, principles, and various types and technique of collage, followed by demo and guided instruction for your hands-on-artistry.
To make a collage, you’ll need some things to glue to the surface for your design. As we will touch upon in the class, that “thing” could be just about anything! In this class, however, we will focus on using various types of paper materials. Leaf through your paper inventory (newspapers, magazines, recycled paper, antique paper, wrapping paper, tissue paper, construction paper, old letters, utility bills, photographs, scribbled recipes, postcards, product packaging, product labels, cardboard, etc.) and bring anything that speaks out to you. Magazines are great for cutting out not just images and shapes, but also inspiring lines of copy as well that could add an interesting touch of layer to your final artwork.
A stack of magazines and some paper supplies and cutouts will be provided for your inspiration and use. All other supplies will also be provided in class.
