Supporting Your Developing Reader (ONLINE)
Taught by Malory Hom
Malory Hom is a NYC elementary school teacher with over 10 years of classroom experience. She has a B.S. in Childhood Education for SUNY New Paltz, an M.A. in Childhood Literacy as a reading specialist from CUNY Hinter, and she is currently completing a M.A. In Developmental Disabilities at Teachers College. She loves sharing her love of reading and literacy to developing readers and their families.
This workshop is designed for parents and family members of children in kindergarten through second grade who are developing or struggling readers. Distance learning is over and many families feel at a loss of how to continue developing early literacy skills and prevent the summer slide. Supporting Your Developing Reader will be an introduction of how children learn to read, why it can be tricky, and give families a toolbox of resources and activities they can implement immediately.
Do any of the following statements or questions sound familiar to you? If they do, this workshop is for you!

Should I be concerned that my child reverses their letters when writing?
My child does not know all of their sight words!
My child can read a word, but then forgets the next minute.
My child reads very slowly and I usually just have to tell them what the word is before they get frustrated.
I am dyslexic. Does that mean my child will also be dyslexic?
