Calling all marbling curious, come play with suminagashi on paper and alternate surfaces! Come experiment and explore in the backyard at The Brooklyn Brainery. Suminagashi translates to “floating ink” or “spilled ink” and is the playful, meditative marbling process you’ll learn in this workshop. You’ll use ink, brush, paper, wood, and water to create marbled designs on wood and paper.

We’ll start with a brief history of the suminagashi process along with contemporary applications. You’ll be guided through the steps for this awe-inspiring practice, then spend the rest of your time meditating on the nature of water, ink, color, paper, and wood, as you let your creativity roam. You’ll play with the flow of the process and leave with a collection of marbled designs on paper and wood. Suminagashi is an inspiring, simple practice that is beginner-friendly and great for anyone looking to play with color, connect creativity, and try something new!

All materials provided. You’ll use an easy-to-use marbling kit, a variety of papers, and leave with a collection of large and small marbled prints.
