Producing 101
Taught by Scott Wittrock
I have been producing videos and film for the past 10 years. I started in high school before I knew what a producer was or what they did. I turned my parents garage into a wrestling ring, an evil scientist's lair, and the bridge of a space ship. Since then I have produced a weekly 30 minute tv show for 4 years, started a travel show, produced 2 short films and worked on a dozen others. I am constantly searching for new creative outlets with video, film, and interactive media. Connect with me: @fixitinpost42
Most people have no clue what a producer actually does. This is understandable because the term gets throw around A LOT. In this class, we dispell the myth that a producer is a power hungry, money obsessed, good for nothing member of the production. We will talk about how a producer is actually the central driving force in the production. They are ultimately in charge of all aspects of production from catering to scheduling to hiring cast and crew. We will talk about how it's done on a large scale and how to translate that to your productions.
In the first day of the class, we'll talk through the five areas of production: idea generation, pre-production, production, post production, and distribution and marketing. Come ready to learn as we will cover a lot in the first session. During the second class, we'll get hands on and apply some of the skills we learned by utilizing the resources we have in the room to write, shoot, and edit a short video.
