Get the knowledge behind serious picture taking. This three-session course introduces and expands on the fundamentals of photography through lectures, in-class shooting exercises, and short homework assignments. Students become familiar with topics such as exposure controls, metering modes, lighting scenarios, basic compositional tools, and histograms—and how all of these affect the photographic image. Coming away with practical understanding of camera operation and the medium in general, you’ll be able to make and evaluate photos with insight.

To get the most out of this course, students are encouraged to have a DSLR camera. However, digital hybrid and point-and-shoot cameras with manual controls are also acceptable. Please be sure you can attend all three sessions before registering, as it's not generally possible to make up sessions.
