Mixed Media & Collage Illustration Workshop
Taught by Malou Zuidema
Malou Zuidema is an illustrator and teaching artist from the Netherlands. She graduated with a four year Bachelor in Fine Arts in Education from the Amsterdam School of Art in the Netherlands in 2010,and since than has run workshops as part of festivals, community art projects and in art studios in both Amsterdam and Hobart (Australia). Her work is characterized as hand-made, quirky and colorful. Her images are often the results of scribble drawings and playful collages.
She believes that playfulness is what creating art is all about; having a great time and going home with something new, something that you didn’t know you could create before.
This is a great workshop if you love creating art or illustration, but feel limited in your drawing skills, or if you want to try something new. The focus will be on introducing you to a variety of different media and approaches that will allow you to create capturing landscapes, funny animals or great looking flowers. The workshop will be very hands-on and will focus on you creating as much as you possibly can.
In addition we will also look at what makes a great, balanced illustration and how you capture the essence of a story in your illustration. And we will look at some stories that have been illustrated over and over again, like Alice in Wonderland for inspiration. During class, we'll create works based on the theme of city scapes and street views.
In this 2-hour workshop you will:
- Learn the basics of illustrating a story
- Learn about the essentials of working with mixed media
- Be introduced to a wide variety of different media
- Take home a pile of artwork, with as many different visual experiments as you can do in a 2-hour time-frame
- Walk away with a world full of new ideas, inspiration and techniques that you can start using right away
