Mixed Media Collage
Taught by Katie Shulman
Katie Shulman graduated from the University of Michigan in 2010 and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York. She supports the creation and relevance of art in public and private life through teaching and community work at various studios in Brooklyn and the Community Centers in Manhattan. Her portfolio has been particularly influenced by studies in women's issues, gender ideology, and biological imaging. Her interdisciplinary practice often requires endurance, repetition, and control and she draws inspiration from collected images, conversations and experiences.
Sometimes all it takes to make an interesting piece is a few hours, a variety of mark-making tools and techniques, and a new perspective.
Spend three hours creating a few works on paper by experimenting with collage techniques including mark making and transfer techniques. Learn how to build a composition on paper using watercolor applications, pens, and stamps. Participants will practice building a unique image by working both independently and as a group and employing elements of design that we'll discuss and explore.
Come practice new skills, experience collaborative creation, and develop a new artistic process.
