Learn to Sail Lesson with Hudson River Community Sailing
Taught by Hudson River Community Sailing
Hudson River Community Sailing is a 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is to develop leadership and academic success in underserved New York City youth through sailing education and provides maritime education and recreation to the community at large. We partner with public schools to offer credit-bearing academic programs, internships, mentoring, and college readiness. Our public tours, lessons and membership help to underwrite our youth work and offer another wayto bring our mission to the community.
Try your hand at sailing on the Hudson.
Perfect for people new to the sport! After a brief on-land safety and theoretical lesson (approx. 20 min.), students spend the rest of the time sailing. Students will learn the basics of steering, controlling the sails, parts of the boat and a few basic maneuvers.
After registration, all students will receive a confirmation email with a short one-pager on sailing and explanation of what to wear and expect.
Please note: The lesson will only be canceled if there is dangerous weather, for example lightning that is going to strike our sailing area or winds over 30mph. Rain is not considered dangerous. Generally 4-24 hours notice is given on weather cancellations. In the event that HRCS must cancel a sail due to adverse weather conditions, HRCS will issue each individual a rescheduling voucher so they may reschedule through HRCS’s website at any time.
Otherwise, refunds are available at the request of the student with at least seven days advance notice. Lessons meet at Hudson River Community Sailing's Boathouse in Hudson River Park (map: https://goo.gl/maps/TQDgC2aCMbr).
