Journeys in Jersey
Taught by Richard Exelbert
Richard Exelbert has made New York City his home for 17 years and has been a licensed NYC sightseeing guide for ten. His focus is not on the typical historical and architectual information that makes up most tours, but instead full sensory immersion - the aesthetic experience of opening up to anything and everything in new environments.
Did you know right across the Hudson in New Jersey is a land of adventure? Of a giant waterfall in a national park, an abandoned baseball stadium, a world-class museum (with a renown permanent Tibetan exhibit), the third largest basilica in the US, a river-side park with 2,000 cherry blossom trees (more than DC), an operating 85 year old movie palace, a mysterious cave, a temple in the marshy Meadowlands by the train tracks, a miraculous statue, a massive Japanese shopping center/supermarket/food court by the river, a giant Middle Eastern community full of restaurants and shopping, and more!
And it's all easily within a day's reach from NYC by public transportation. No car necessary.
This virtual tour of some of New Jersey's hidden spots will entice you with the adventures that await you and arm you with what you need to organize your own fantastic day trips to exciting destinations like Paterson, Bayonne, Newark, Jersey City, Edgewater, Hoboken, and Seacaucus - no passport or plane ticket needed, just a few dollars, and maybe your cell phone in case you get lost...
(This is a classroom session, not a walking tour!)
