Introduction to Embroidery: Tote Bags (ONLINE)
Taught by Rhiannon Platt
Rhiannon Platt is at least third generation fiber artist. Raised by seamstresses, crocheters, and fiber artists of all kinds, she picked up her first pair of needles over a decade ago. Since her first scarf, Rhiannon has gone on to fabricate for Lion Brand Yarn, Nathan Vincent, Olek, Jeila Gueramian, Londonkaye, and Levi’s. In between commissions, she finds time to write patterns and make endless sweaters.

Learn the practical applications to embroidery. This class will focus on creating monogrammed designs by combining basic stitches to create a unique tote bag.
In addition to fundamental stitches, we will also learn the satin stitch, which can be used to cover large areas, and proves most useful. Students will start these projects in class and be given the materials to complete the bag later.
Skills Required: None
Materials needed:
- Embroidery floss in a variety of colors (you'll probaby want 5 or 6 colors)
- Embroidery hoop 5" or larger
- Cotton/canvas blank tote bag - nothing too thick
- needle
- water soluble pen/pencil (like this) - these are great because you can wash the marks off your fabric, but don't panic if you don't have one
