Taught by Will Sakran

Will is an electrical engineer, product designer, and part-time instructor at NJIT. He has a weird and wide range of experience, from missile detection systems to preschool toys. This includes seven fun-filled years as an engineer at Fisher-Price where he rubbed elbows with fictional entertainment icons like Elmo, Winnie the Pooh, and Dora the Explorer. He now has his own design shop in Brooklyn and spends most of his free time cooking, baking, drinking beer, and going on and on about science.

Zzzzzt! DIY electronics is enjoying quite the moment in the sun. If you don't know anything about electronics, but want to join in on the fun, then this two-part class is for you.

In the first class you'll learn some basic circuit theory, including the concepts of voltage, current, and power, plus what some of the basic electronic components are used for. We'll also study the circuit that is the basis for the hands-on project we'll tackle in the second class.

In the second class you'll learn to solder and read assembly instructions. You'll put together a real, working, noise-making doodad that you get to take home with you to amaze your family and friends. For a sneak peek of what we'll be making, check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PV_w38ldZaE

This class is perfectly suited to those that don't know a soldering iron from a nine iron. You don't need any prior electronics or soldering experience, but you'll leave this class with the know-how and confidence to construct almost any electronics kit.
