Interaction Design and Application

Allison is a UX Designer at Code + Theory in Manhattan. After studying studio arts for many years, she realized she didn't want to be an artist and that design was a much better fit, soon finding her niche in interaction design. She completed her masters at Pratt Institute where her thesis explored experiential interaction design and alternative interfaces. When she's not nerding out over digital experimentation and design, you can find her riding around the city on her bike or ogling some paintings at a museum.
Interaction Design buzzwords like IxD, CX, UI, UX, HCI, ID, Apps, Web Apps, Responsive Design, Human Centered Design, etc. seem to flying all over the place lately, but if all this seems like gobbledygook, you're not alone.
Interaction Design and its accompanying fields are some of the fastest growing jobs in the tech industry, and are rapidly gaining a lot of attention and respect in the design world. As our technology grows up and our digital systems become more complex, new fields have emerged to account for the concept, creation, and stability of these digital products as they relate to our human lives. In this class, we'll examine the field of Interaction Design and all its subcategories. We'll explore the thought processes, methodologies of creation, the assets typically produced, and the outcomes they intend to accomplish. At the end of class, we'll have a short brainstorming and working session to see how we might give our ideas a plan of action and turn them into real, marketable products.
This class is not intended for professional Interaction, UI, or UX designers. It is, however, perfect for graphic designers, programmers, marketers, or general internetty/techy-inclined people who are interested in learning about the field of Interaction or UX Design.
