Hardcover Books: Explorations in Bookbinding (3 Online Classes)
Taught by Kelly Laughlin
Kelly Laughlin is a multidisciplinary artist and educator who focuses on the playful, meditative acts of making. She believes every person is capable of living a creative life. Kelly is the founder of Odette Press, a paper marbling and bookbinding studio focused on specialty papers, books, and stationery, created with the intention to support self discovery and healing through the act of writing.
A book can be a sturdy space for your ideas, your images, your dreams, and reflections. In this three-part series, explore hardcover bindings and expand your understanding of the creative techniques of the bookbinding process.
This class is perfect for anyone who has some previous experience in bookbinding.
WEEK 1: Coptic Stitch
Using this decorative, centuries-old sewing stitch, you’ll create a hardcover coptic stitch book that lays flat when opened -- perfect to use as a photo album, sketchbook, or guestbook.
WEEKS 2 & 3: French Link Stitch and Case Binding
Using the sturdy, supportive French Link Stitch, create a multiple signature book with cloth-bound hard covers for all of your stories, drawings, ideas, and dreams. This class will span across two weeks to allow for drying time.
