Game Theory: Get Better at Everything!
Taught by Ryan Doto
Ryan Doto is a host of things, including an obsessive learner, an omnivorous reader, a technophile, and an overall closet nerd. His professions include philosophy PhD student, professional Starcraft II player, and creator of two daily podcasts. If he could merge a book and a computer (and not the way the Nook or Kindle have), he would never, ever go outside.
Game Theory isn't just for grandmaster chess players or theoretical economists. Game Theory is a way of looking at the world - especially the one we New Yorkers live in. It's about succeeding in competition - ANY kind of competition. Whether you want that promotion really badly, you're trying to get ahead in school, or you want to understand how to beat your friends in Monopoly - Game Theory is your answer.
With Game Theory you learn to identify what you're looking for, determine your optimal outcomes, evaluate your opponents desires and optimal outcomes, and use your knowledge of the way people encounter situations to your advantage. It is literally applicable to any scenario with more than one person involved!
And don't worry, if you're not into cut-throat tactics, that's just as good! Game Theory is about more than just crushing your opponents, but getting what YOU want out of any situation, even that's everyone being happy and successful.
Over the next three weeks this course will teach you the ins and outs of Game Theory without the traditional math and symbols used to complicate it. It will show you how to apply this theory to your life, and will teach you to be better at virtually everything! Through puzzles, stories, and games, I will try to teach you relatively advanced Game Theory strategies and concepts in a very accessible and fun way. Come learn to be awesome!
