In comparison to sketch and stand up comedy, improv is unplanned and unscripted. The most collaborative of the comedic art forms, the dialogue, action, story and characters are born from cohesive group work, spontaneity, grounded scenes and the talent to wield an entertaining world all based off an audience suggestion.
On the Spot: A Crash Course on Improv Comedy welcomes students of ALL levels of experience and provides a safe space for those who have an active interest in exploring comedy (be it as a hobby or career). Students will receive a comprehensive, working survey of all the fundamentals of improvisation, public speaking and acting inspired by the world’s leading schools of comedy (UCB, iO, The Second City.) The crash course is filled with a brief history of the rise of comedic improv to mainstream success (UCB, Whose Line Is It Anyway?), an outline of improv's benefits in work and everyday life and supportive, fun and educational exercises to establish confidence and find your funny.
