Crochet Project: Make a Crochet Balaclava
Taught by Rhiannon Platt
Rhiannon Platt is at least third generation fiber artist. Raised by seamstresses, crocheters, and fiber artists of all kinds, she picked up her first pair of needles over a decade ago. Since her first scarf, Rhiannon has gone on to fabricate for Lion Brand Yarn, Nathan Vincent, Olek, Jeila Gueramian, Londonkaye, and Levi’s. In between commissions, she finds time to write patterns and make endless sweaters.
Location: Prospect Heights Brainery (190 Underhill Ave in Prospect Heights, BK)
Granny squares are a classic crochet motif that, while typically seen in blankets, can be used to make so much more!
We'll start with learning the building blocks of crochet and then move into swatching so your project fits correctly, how to crochet in the round, change colors, seam your squares together, and make crochet ribbing! With these skills you can create so many projects with granny squares, including sweaters, stuffed animals, slippers, scarves, and even pants.
No advance knowledge or crochet is needed, and beginners are welcome.
There will be homework required between sessions, and please make sure you can attend all sessions before signing up! Materials provided.
Class meets Jan 31, Feb 7, Feb 17, Feb 28 and March 7 from 12-2pm. No class Feb 21st.
