Bookbinding: Casing In Lined Journals (In Person)

Kelly Laughlin is a multidisciplinary artist and educator who focuses on the playful, meditative acts of making. She believes every person is capable of living a creative life. Kelly is the founder of Odette Press, a paper marbling and bookbinding studio focused on specialty papers, books, and stationery, created with the intention to support self discovery and healing through the act of writing.

Join Kelly Laughlin, artist and founder of Odette Press for an exploration into the hardcover casing in process as you learn to craft your own lined notebook. Working with a pre-sewn text block, Italian book cloth, decorative papers, and bookbinding tools, we’ll focus on folding, scoring, crafting a hinge, finishing your journal, and getting those covers to fit.

one pre-sewn lined text block with book cloth (3 ½” x 5 ⅛” 144 lined pages)

a glue brush to add to your toolkit

materials list and notes for casing in at home
If you have your own bone folder, scissors, and ruler, bring those along. If not, tools will be available to use druing class. All materials for this project will be provided. This class is great for beginners with some bookbinding experience.
