Bodega Blooms
Taught by Kelly Cobb
Kelly Cobb is the owner of 2h flowers. She left behind a 7 year career in fashion production to pursue her entrepreneurial dreams. Nicknamed "Hobby Cobby" by her friends, Kelly enjoys studying classical ballet, DJing, and painting.
Just as we pass the myriad of street vendors peddling the same old sunglasses and cashmere scarves, we dismiss our corner delis as a spot for flowers we might actually covet. our eyes glaze over at the sight of brightly dyed daisies, the rainbow of roses, the... something... that resembles... a fuzzy brain? What is that anyway?
In this workshop you’ll learn all about the standard deli offerings, sorting through the unworthy, and selecting the best of the bucketed blooms.
What to expect:
A totally relaxed gathering to chat about flowers. We’ll get to know each other,
sip some bubbly (‘tis the season, afterall), and create some lovely arrangements
that you can be proud of.
To be discussed:
Flower care
We’ll talk about what to do with that packet of flower food, if adding sugar
really helps, and the hunt for copper pennies. sharp knife vs. kitchen scissors,
making flowers last, and how to properly dethorn are all on the agenda.
Proper presentation
Like a fine wine to creamy brie, we’ll discuss vase and flower pairings to help
you get the most out of even the simplest stems.
Sourcing
Where to go, what to look for, and shopping with a purpose.
Styling
A no rules approach to creating something you’ll love. We’ll figure out the best
way to execute your floral vision.
What you’ll walk away with:
- A general understanding of basic flower care
- The ability to source flowers in your own neighborhood
- Knowledge of proper vase/flower pairings
- An arrangement or two that you assembled during class
What to bring:
- Excitement. Flowers! Yay!
- We’re going to be working with mason jars, but if you have a vase you’d like
to work with feel free to bring it along
- If there’s a flower you’ve always wanted to incorporate, but weren’t sure how,
tweet it with the hashtag #bodegablooms, and I'll try and include it in the workshop!
