Basic Bike Mechanics: Flat Fixes & Brake Adjustments
Taught by Laurel Leckert
Laurel has been cycling since she was a toddler falling asleep on the back of mom's bike, and biking has been her primary mode of transportation since she moved to Brooklyn in 2005. She's worked with lots of bike-related community organizations, including the Time's Up, New York Bike Dance, the Cargo Bike Collective, Bike Adventure, and the Freegan Bike Workshop. Lately biking is her main source of income, as well: she currently works as a mechanic for NYC Bike Share (CitiBike). Along with a crew of other badass ladies, she also teaches a free weekly mechanics class for women and trans folk at Time's Up.
Keep your bike in prime riding shaping with quick fixes and maintenance techniques.
In this class, we'll learn how to patch a flat, change the tube out entirely, and adjust our own brakes - fixes that are fast, easy to learn, and will save you a bunch of cash. After the demos, we'll have lots of time for Q&A, so come prepared with all your questions. We'll also discuss all the general TLC your bike needs to stay in top condition and how often your should perform it.
Plus, everyone who comes to the class will leave with either a set of lights or your own patch kit and tire levers.
(Class size: 15ish, demo + Q&A, no need to bring your own bike)
