The second level of American Sign Language is designed for students who have either participated in level 1 here at The Brainery or have prior experience using ASL.
The course will develop story telling skills using classifiers, additional vocabulary, more complex ideas, and visual descriptions. We will also reinforce fingerspelling skills; count higher than before using numbers, and we will practice our receptive skills. Much of this class will be held in ASL, especially as the weeks go by so please be mindful that you will have to use some context clues to extract the full meaning of some concepts. During the first class, we will spend time reviewing skills learned in our level 1 class.
We will delve into what makes ASL stories and poetry so rich including how to “make a rhyme” in ASL, how to make your stories have more 3-D elements and make your stories more relevant to you!
If you would like to sign up and have not taken our first level course, we may ask you to participate in a short video screening process or to describe your previous ASL experience in order to ensure a smooth transition into the class!
