Advanced Mending: Repeat Patterns and Speed Weaving
Taught by Rhiannon Platt
Rhiannon Platt is at least a third generation fiber artist. Raised by seamstresses, crocheters, and fiber artists of all kinds, she picked up her first pair of needles over a fifteen years ago. Since her first scarf, Rhiannon has gone on to fabricate for Lion Brand Yarn, Nathan Vincent, Olek, Jeila Gueramian, Londonkaye, and Levi’s. In between commissions, she finds time to write patterns and make endless sweaters.
Location: Prospect Heights Brainery (190 Underhill Ave in Prospect Heights, BK)
In this class students will work on learning patterning in sashiko and woven mending. We will work on one of the classic repeating patterns in the Japanese sashiko-style embroidery.
Then, using a speed weave, students will learn how to create fabric to patch their holes.
Some stitching experience is helpful in order to finish all the projects during class time!
