Currently a lingua franca in use around the world, English was at first a minor language spoken by a few thousand people in Europe several thousand years ago.

In this class, we will explore how English has developed and spread to its present form. Students may find themselves inspired to think about English as living cultural history.

This class will include lecture, discussion and activities.
