The Era of Eco Fashion

Taught by Carmen Artigas

Carmen has a background in apparel, accessories, and product design. Having already worked in India with artisan communities, certified organic cotton and natural dyes in 1999 exposed her to the challenges of developing sustainable products. Carmen has worked in fashion for almost 20 years, most recently in sustainable fashion consulting, designing, and sourcing. She is currently teaching Ethical Fashion at FIT and Parsons.

So what exactly is eco-fashion?
In a world of fast fashion can we go slow?
Can fashion have a positive impact?
Do you want to know about the things you're buying and how they're produced?

If you are curious about ethical fashion this class will bring into focus sustainability and responsibility into the design process. Learn about the impact of textiles on the environment, responsible sourcing and manufacturing, zero waste practices, certification options and the supply chain. There will also be an introduction to fair trade, natural dyeing, working with artisans and rescuing endangered crafts.
