Taught by Katarina Jerinic

Katarina Jerinic is a Gowanus-based artist whose projects respond to and intervene in the built landscape with maps, photographs and other ephemera. Her work has been included in exhibitions at Gowanus Souvenir Shop, Brooklyn, NY; Bronx Museum of the Arts; BRIC, Brooklyn; the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art, University of Nevada Las Vegas and supported by Times Square Alliance; Lower Manhattan Cultural Council; Brooklyn Arts Council; and Baxter St at Camera Club of New York where she is a 2017 Workspace Resident. Her public project Cloud Drift, a series of cyanotype-image flags flown over each of the Gowanus Canal's pedestrian bridges, is on view this summer from June 21-September 21. She has her MFA in Photography and Related Media from School of Visual Arts, New York.

This is an old class! Check out the current classes, or sign up for our mailing list to see if we'll offer this one again.

This class might be over, but get first dibs on new sessions and brand-new classes by signing up on our ultra-rad mailing list.

*Because of the chance of rain/clouds on Saturday, our "cloud date" of July 9th is in effect!*

In this 3-hour class, students will learn to make cyanotypes, a 19th century photographic process that prints in the sun and produces a beautiful blue image. Students will learn about a variety of materials and techniques for making cyanotypes as they make their own prints.

We will experiment with both abstract compositions made from found objects as well as print from negatives of images made by students. All materials are included, and you'll make two 8"x10" prints.

This class is part of the public programming accompanying Katarina Jerinic’s public art project Cloud Drift.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • If it's rainy or cloudy, class will be held on Sunday, July 9 from 11am-2pm also at the Gowanus Souvenir Shop. Please only register if you're able to also attend on the rain date, as no refunds will be issued if you cannot attend should class be moved to July 9th.
  • Each student will submit a photograph for printing one week prior to class; information on how to submit the image will be provided after registration, and camera phone images will work fine for this process.
  • Class will be held at the Gowanus Souvenir Shop, 567 Union St, Brooklyn NY 11215
