Thanks to well-publicized research by the online dating industry, we can all quote the "1 in 5 relationships start online" statistic by heart. But ask many of the staggering 49 million American singles who have tried some kind of online dating and that 20% success rate begs a healthy dose of cynicism. Whether or not the research is entirely accurate (it's not), it is impossible to deny the potential. With that many people giving it a shot, there is a huge opportunity to connect with a vast network of singles you'd never be able to meet in your social circle, a bar or randomly at a bookstore.

So on a practical level, what does this mean? It means that - like with any endeavor - your best chance for success is fully embracing the form and doing all you can to get the most out of your time and resources. And there are tricks and tips for presenting yourself in a way that is both flattering and honest. We'll also discuss the best strategy for sorting through your fellow daters, messaging and how to capture that all important profile picture with your dignity intact.

Oh--and believe it or not, it can be fun!
