Tie Dye Basics

Taught by Jessi Highet

Jessi Highet studied textiles and clothing, along with everything else she could manage to study at Parsons.  She has been teaching children’s art classes for over 10 years and started teaching art to adults five years ago. She works as a stylist, window display creator, and textile artist. When she's not working, she's usually out finding something to tinker with, tediously stitch together, or throw in a dye bath.

This is an old class! Check out the current classes, or sign up for our mailing list to see if we'll offer this one again.

The idea of tie-dyeing probably evokes memories of grade school parties learning the classic spiral and dousing a white shirt with as many colors as you can find.

This class is very different from children's tie-dye but still just as fun! Here, we will explore five different methods of folding, twisting, and binding to create specific patterns on our dye-ables.

Everyone will receive two large cotton flour sack towels, and please feel free to bring along up to two additional 100% cotton items to work with as well. T-shirts work well, but please no beach towels or sweatshirts! Wear something you wouldn't mind getting dye splashed on, or bring an apron.

This class will take place outside in the Brainery's backyard and inside if the weather is bad!
