Taught by Christina Massey

Christina Massey is a Brooklyn-based artist using re-purposed and found materials combined with fiber art techniques such as weaving and stitching to create abstract sculptural paintings. Her work has exhibited frequently in and around the NYC metropolitan area as well as abroad in cities such as London, Tokyo and Toronto. As much as she enjoys making her art and showing it to the world, she also greatly enjoys sharing her process and ideas with the rest of us through her workshops and creativity coaching.

This is an old class! Check out the current classes, or sign up for our mailing list to see if we'll offer this one again.

This class might be over, but get first dibs on new sessions and brand-new classes by signing up on our ultra-rad mailing list.

In this class we'll be focusing on how to re-purpose aluminum cans to create two and three dimensional weavings. You will learn how to safely cut open and reuse aluminum cans, flatten them, and use those to create colorful, whimsical art objects that can be used for both functional and non-functional purposes. You'll learn how to make a simple loom with wire and a frame, then get to your creating in a fun sharing atmosphere. Expect to go home with at least one if not more artistic weavings and inspiration on how to continue this process to create loads more fun objects at home.

What to bring: please bring as many empty, clean aluminum cans as you can. Sharing is encouraged! Not that into aluminum cans? That's ok! Past students have used plastic bottles, bike tires and magazines as alternatives with amazing results. If it's bendable and soft enough to cut with scissors, it should probably work....so let's give it a try!

If you have any questions before signing up, please feel free to ask and we can customize your project for your goals.
