During the Spanish Civil War, tens of thousands of foreign volunteers joined the International Brigades to aid the embattled Spanish Republic and fight fascism. They risked their lives in defense of a revolutionary democracy surrounded by enemies and adopted the slogan “¡No pasarán!” -- “They shall not pass!” Among their ranks were 2800 Americans who served in what came to be known as the Abraham Lincoln Brigade.

The men and women of the Lincoln Brigade came from all walks of life, fired by an idealism that took them halfway around the world to fight for liberty. ¡No Pasarán! is an introduction to these forgotten heroes who sacrificed everything to defend democracy against its enemies.
