Haitian Creole + Culture: Not Just Voodoo Dolls & Zombies
Taught by Wynnie L
Wynnie learned English as a second language and speaks English with a generic American English accent. She self indentifies as a language junkie and has fed her addiction to language with a degree in Linguistics and Spanish. As a Haitian living in the United States she enjoys doing things that demonstrate her bi-cultural nature -- from cooking traditional Haitian food like akra and banan pize to enjoying a ballgame at Yankee stadium.
Wynnie currently teaches all levels of math at Hostos Community College while craftfully dodging marriage and baby questions from her 84 year old grandmother.

This is an old class! Enjoy the notes, and check out the current courses.
Are you still curious about all things Haiti related??
Continuing to use language as our medium, we will uncover some of Haiti's best kept secrets. Going beyond the negative media portrayal of Haiti, we'll learn about Haiti's rich culture and history.
Class sessions will include discussions on Haitian culture with a focus on art, music, and literature. Each session will be accompanied by a lesson on Haitian Creole.
By the end of three sessions, participants will know basic Haitian Creole phrases, be able to quote famous Haitian songs & poets, and understand what it really means to be Haitian in the 21st Century.
Note: This class is a continuation of the Haitian Creole class we offered in August, but the first class isn't a pre-req for this one!
