Do you feel as if you are too fat? Do you feel as if you are too thin? Did you know that there is a cultural element to your feeling?

In this class we will explore food, health and body image trends from an anthropological perspective. Using cultural and historical comparisons, we will explore how cultures define what is an acceptable body type and how food and health affect, and are affected by, these choices. While we will touch upon these processes in various cultures, our main cultural focus will be on America. This class will include lecture, discussion and classroom activities.
