As a dance form, bellydance has roots that extend back to around 6,000 years ago. Since that time, it has been adopted by different cultures through various time periods - - sometimes inciting controversy.

In this class we will look at bellydance through an anthropological lens in order to re-examine the ancient meanings and styles of this popular contemporary dance form.

This class will include lecture, discussion and activities.
