Fenugreek look like rocks. Wikipedia calls them cuboid but I call them this-is-not-what-food-should-look-like.

Fenugreek shows up a lot in cuisines that have a lot of long-simmering stews or curries, like Indian or Ethiopian. They contain an aroma compound called sotolon that makes them smell like maple syrup, although I promise they don't taste like that anywhere I've ever eaten them.

Women who are breastfeeding eat them like pills to increase their milk supply, but as a side effect they start to smell like maple syrup.
